#IoT Hackathon!
What a great weekend for the Rocket Farm team! We were really excited when we found out about the ThingWorx #IoT Hackathon that was this past weekend, which was a 24 hour hackathon focused on the Internet of Things. ThingWorx is owned by PTC and is their huge new initiative to be the back end to the exploding world of connecting devices.
This week is LiveWorx, the big conference where Woz and Governor Baker are speaking, and the Hackathon was done in conjunction with that show. There were 3 categories in the Hackathon – Smart Agriculture, Connected Cities and Accessibility for the blind. With a name like Rocket Farm Studios, it seemed obvious for us to choose the first category and the more we thought about our idea, the more we liked it.
So this past weekend a handful of intrepid Rocket Farmers got together and spent 24 hours growing an awesome new app called Farmr. Farmr is designed to make people successful backyard farmers by cultivating sensor data from your garden (e.g. moisture, light, pH levels) and aggregating that with global weather data and the wisdom of crowds. We created a really fun FarmVille-like interface for managing your garden, tied in the sensors and data, and after a long, long day of designing and coding, presented to the judges.
We are thrilled to announce that Farmr won first prize in the Smart Agriculture category! And that means that we are heading to the grand finals which will be held down town at the Hynes during the LiveWorx show and judged by none other then the Woz (Steve Wozniak to you laymen)!
So very excited to meet him in person and we have high hopes for our stellar team and the vision of our app!
Wish us luck in the finals! Happy Farming!
